How to Play

In Pawn & Passport, you travel between chess cities, visit clubs and casual venues, challenge opponents, learn openings, and work your way toward the final championship.

Main Goal

• Visit new locations
• Talk to players and enter clubs or tournaments
• Win matches to progress
• Defeat Star Players
• Reach the final championship

Chess Gameplay

• Select one of your pieces
• Choose a legal destination square
• Play the match using normal chess rules
• Use Focus when available for help and hints
• Learn openings, spot traps and gambits, and improve as you progress

• Left Click on characters, locations, and menu buttons to interact
• Left Click a chess piece, then Left Click a highlighted square to move
• Use the on-screen buttons for menus, hints, and game actions

Pawn & Passport is a pixel art chess career RPG about travelling the world, joining chess clubs, learning new openings and climbing from local competition toward the international stage.

Create your player, choose where to begin and visit chess cities around the world. Each location has its own club, opponents, tournament and Star Player to defeat. Between major events, you can visit casual chess spots, take on optional challenges and improve your game.

Your chess knowledge grows alongside your character. Learn openings, use Focus for hints, discover traps and gambits, and get feedback on important moves, mistakes and clutch moments. Opponents are designed to play more like real players at different skill levels rather than simply making random bad moves.

The jam version features six chess cities, six casual locations and a final championship.

Pawn & Passport mixes chess, RPG progression, sports career structure and light educational systems into one globe-trotting adventure.
